Pupil Premium

Central government gives funding for schools to support pupils from deprived backgrounds. This funding is called the 'Pupil Premium'. It is designed to close the gap in learning and achievement for those children from less advantaged backgrounds. At St Elizabeth, we are committed to ensuring excellence for all pupils. This year, our pupil premium is being used in the following ways:

  • Numbers Count - supporting early mathematical skills acquisition
  • Support for access to extra curricular activities
  • Booster classes in English and Mathematics
  • Musical instrument tuition

OCTOBER 2011

October has been a fantastic month for Reception! We had the harvest festival this month and all the children donated some food to local charities. We also had our harvest assemblies and we all sang songs and made some harvest hats. Have a look at our photos!

Last week we read the story ‘The Gingerbread Man'  We made some gingerbread in class and the whole school could smell how delicious it was.  We also made some Gingerbread houses uses reclaimed resources which we painted and decorated.

This week its Black History week.  We made our own designs for some African clothes using some African material that was given to us by one of our parents.  We also have one of St Elizabeth's TA coming to our class to tell us about her life growing up in Nigeria.  On Thursday some of us are going to be dressing up in tradional Afro-Caribbean costume and attending the Black History Month celebration where we can try all the yummy African and West Indian food.

SEPTEMBER 2011

We have had a lovely first week at school and all the children in Reception have settled in so well.

Our topic for this half term is called All about me! We will be talking about our likes and dislikes, our similarities and differences and we look at our senses.

This week we have been reading the story ‘My Day' and have talking about our daily routines. We have used our handprints to compare hand sizes with our teachers and year 4 and have put them in size order on one of our displays.  We are also going to be drawing our own portraits using lots of different materials!

We went to have lunch in the dinner hall for the first time last week.
