Pupil Premium

Central government gives funding for schools to support pupils from deprived backgrounds. This funding is called the 'Pupil Premium'. It is designed to close the gap in learning and achievement for those children from less advantaged backgrounds. At St Elizabeth, we are committed to ensuring excellence for all pupils. This year, our pupil premium is being used in the following ways:

  • Numbers Count - supporting early mathematical skills acquisition
  • Support for access to extra curricular activities
  • Booster classes in English and Mathematics
  • Musical instrument tuition

The Paired Science Club got off to a flying start in February 2011! Many thanks to all those parents, children and staff who gave generously of their time to make this such a successful launch.  Parental evaluations were unanimous in praise of the year 6 pupil demonstrators, commenting on their scientific and social skills as well as their excellent communication skills, showing their expertise in Speaking and Listening as well as science.  Parental evaluations were also unanimous in their enthusiasm for the event; those parents present felt grateful and through the enhancement of their own scientific knowledge and understanding, feeling now empowered to work confidently with their children on the activities so that they can be fun for all involved.

The first event for parents ran from 2.30 to 3.30 pm and was a huge success, as ever the children from Year 6 who lead the individual workshops worked hard to engage all parents. Parents eagerly engaged in the event and all were particularly impressed by their own reaction times.

The second parental event ran from 7.00 to 8.00 pm and parents expressed their gratitude that it had been organised for a time when the majority would be able to attend.  There was a strongly expressed wish to build on these opportunities for parents to broaden their understanding of what – and how – their children are learning in school so that they can support at home.  School and home working together as a team has always been and continues to be a strength that makes Team St Elizabeth Special!

Children received their awards from Mr Purcell.

We are all very grateful to all the parents and grandparents who worked with the children in the Paired Science Activities.

"I was very impressed with all the projects that took place! Even at my age of 30, I was intrigued how all these experiments worked.

It was a great set up and credit to all the staff and pupils that helped this evening. I do believe science is a very important subject as our modern day lives depend on it.

I will get involved with my children on this subject and give them the push they need to understand. It is the hardest subject to learn and is very important to understand for the modern world. Thank You"

"It was a good experience and think the children would enjoy performing these experiments as well."

"Tonight was a very enjoyable evening; we were able to ask questions so that when these projects are sent home we are in a knowledgeable position to assist our daughter. We found this experience not only educational but more importantly fun and at times exciting."

"I did enjoy it, it was fun and I think more of this should be organised. More time should be given when explaining to parents to understand it better."

"Very interesting! How such simple things can be good fun."

"I found the paired science evening very enjoyable and with fun activities. The hospitality was something else! The year 6 children were very helpful and they enjoyed doing the fun activities with the parents."

"A really fun way to learn and be reminded of basic things."

"Its good to ask WHY, its good to meet other parents."

"Sangria at a parents meeting- it’s the way forward!"

"Really fabulous, engaged and articulate pupils."

"My year 1 child was sent home with her folder this week, and so yes, attending the session brought everything together. Looking forward to the educational aspect of doing the activities."

"Thank you so much"

"I really enjoyed the meeting; it made me understand how the project works. I also enjoyed all the activities that were set up, it was fun. It would be more fun if there was more time."

"I really enjoyed the workshop. I love the teachers, they are brilliant!"

"In all, the reception was great! Very educational."

"We need more sessions and time extensions."

"Firstly- very much appreciate this being outside of working hours."

"Great organisation and great community centre. You’ll probably have to put the scientific explanation of why balls bounce, what force static electricity is really called etc for us non science geeks on the school website."

"Interesting experiments, great way to learn science and lovely kids doing the demos."

"I really enjoyed tonight’s session; it gave me an insight into what I will be sharing with Ruben. It also gives me the confidence to be ready once he comes home with the first one!"

"It’s good because we are using objects that are available at home and gives us ideas on how to recycle."

"Thank you evening sessions like these are great too."

"Nice experience, I had lots of fun and the opportunity to interact with other parents. Science is a world to explore and it was nice to be shown how things can happen."

"You have met the objectives tonight, encouraging parents to be active in their children’s learning:

  • It is educational, fun and interesting
  • Great learning environment for children
  • So much learning in science needed and does need to be practical and enjoyable whilst learning
  • It is an excellent project for parents/children
  • Very interactive and the parents enjoyed it
  • Teachers are approachable

"Great initiative by the school for our children."

"We really appreciated the hospitality."

Thank you for all these great comments!
